The process of a smooth running democratic election period hides itself in an illusion of peace, overshadowing the violence of democracy itself.
What would a democratic election that does not run smoothly do?
In 2020 three individuals set fire to USPS trucks to condemn democracy itself amidst an uprising. During their spree they set fire to police vehicles, mail drop boxes, USPS trucks, left leaflets of a deranged political nature, and eventually were identified due to GPS, their vehicle being caught on camera, their self-posted videos to social media, one person using their credit card to buy things like a gas can and gloves, saying the exact wording of the leaflet in a personal Instagram post… the list in the federal affidavit goes on. They have since been charged and sentenced, and will be released within the next two years. Sadly one of them(Vida “Lyfe” Jones) turned snitch on their co-defendants.
While we may never know how many ballots were in those USPS trucks or mail boxes, and we may never know how much effect this has on the democratic process, it brings to mind bright possibilities in thinking about the otherwise depressing period of elections.
