In solidarity with the ongoing Palestinian uprising we vandalized the building of a US Naval Officer office in central North Carolina. We painted the doors with the message, “Free Palestine” and smashed the windows. We stand with all the oppressed people of the world who fight for liberation, and recognize the violence of the colonized cannot be equated with the violence of the colonizer. We don’t believe there is a state solution to colonization, and while there are many things we don’t know we are sure that the US war machine is and always will be one of the main roadblocks to freedom all over the world, and so it is on us, in the belly of the beast to do what we can to attack it.
Free Palestine, USA out of everywhere

On Indigenous People’s Night, we smashed all nine windows at the military recruiters’ office in so-called Daly City, California (Ramaytush Ohlone territory).
We dedicate this action to Jennifer “Ganda” Laude, a Filipina woman who was murdered by transphobic U.S. Marine Joseph Scott Pemberton on October 11, 2014. We acted in response to a call by Filipino/a/x comrades asking anarchists in the United States to memorialize Ganda and attack U.S. imperialism. We know that this one action alone is not enough, but we hope that it encourages other anarchists to attack in Ganda’s name as well. For comrades in the Northeast who have the skills to do the research, Pemberton grew up in New Bedford, Massachusetts and may have returned there after he was pardoned by Duterte in 2020.
We extend our solidarity to all anti-colonial struggles around the world. Solidarity to Palestinians resisting Zionist settler-colonialism! Solidarity to Haitians resisting yet another U.N. intervention! Solidarity to Weelaunee forest defenders! Death to America!

After being officially criminally indicted by the state of Georgia and reaching seven months of incarceration, I wish to speak again.
Today, on Indigenous People’s Day, I want to raise my voice to remind everybody that this marks 531 years of Indigenous resistance here on Turtle Island. As Indigenous people, we must go beyond mere representation and celebrations. Police, prisons, reservations, detention centers, and borders operate through a shared logic of immobilization, containing our oppressed communities in their racial system.
I am right now in a place that shouldn’t be holding any people, a place that should not exist. A place that has caused many cases of human rights abuses and violations, a place where many people have lost their lives. A place where people don’t have proper shelter and healthcare. The people here are refugees. The prison industrial complex exists for profit; the goal of CoreCivic is to maximize profits, not to follow a moral compass by treating people with dignity. When you put corporations in charge of human beings, you will see flagrant violations of human rights, even to the point that people are dying. Everyone outside should raise their voice and demand that this stops.
In times of rising xenophobia and racism, we see images of thousands of migrants and refugees trying to cross the southern colonial border and we hear the rhetoric of border crisis. In reality, there is no border crisis but a displacement crisis. The war on migrant and refugee people does not exist separate from anti-Indigenous and anti-Black violence. Border imperialism is structurally bound up in genocide. Crees and Anishinaabe from Canada and Yaquis from Mexico crossed into the U.S. in the late 19th and early 20th century and engaged in political struggles for recognition to challenge the state’s subjugation of them as “foreign Indians” and “illegal immigrants.”
Many southern immigrants/refugees are also Indigenous people and Black relatives. Borders and xenophobic immigration laws are rooted in Indigenous dispossession and anti-Black violence. In these 531 years of Indigenous resistance, I stand in solidarity with the relatives and Indigenous nations and communities remembering their old teachings, stories, songs, and remembering that we are all still warriors. Solidarity with migrant and refugee relatives at the southern colonial border, across the world, and behind bars in these detention centers/concentration camps. Solidarity with the land defenders fighting the Mountain Valley Pipeline Black Snake and protecting life. Solidarity with Gaza — we are all owed dignity, personhood, respect.
As an Indigenous migrant man, I have been called many things by the state. Now more than ever, I continue resisting this ridiculous narrative and these new RICO charges. I’m a sundancer, a land defender, a frontliner, living in occupied Indigenous land and territories with obligations and responsibilities due to my presence here—I’m a warrior not by anyone else’s definition other than my own and my people’s. These are the identities I hold dear. Because some of these identities have been used as a weapon to oppress me, I use them as a weapon of my own liberation. I protect, nurture, and love in these deep ways.
I have been shot by rubber bullets many times; maced, tear-gassed, and pepper sprayed more times than I can remember; I have been bitten and attacked by dogs, I have had guns pointed at my face by white supremacists, sprayed by water canons under freezing temperatures, tased a few times and injured many more. And I have always been proud to uphold my responsibilities and take a stand to defend people and land, even though standing up to the repressive power of the state has had a cost—the latest, this indictment, these seven months of incarceration and the so-real-now threat of deportation and removal from this land, this precious land. The land of my relatives, the land where my family lives, the land where my father is buried.
This is who I am. In this continuous detention, I’m fed up with the degradation and the conditions, but I want you all to know that I keep resisting and standing up against the daily conditions, against the dehumanization, and against this fucked up system that separates us. I live a life that I don’t regret.

Appelism is an informal strain of authoritarian communism that has been gaining traction on this continent over the past decade or so. Taking up elements of both the revolutionary party structure and insurrectionary anarchism, this tendency rebrands authoritarian communism as something that looks like informal networks but acts like a party.
Appelists generally do not present themselves as appelists. The term “appelist” refers to The Call (L’Appel in the original French) by the Invisible Committee, written by some of the same authors as the 1999 journal Tiqqun. This is why “appelists” are sometimes also called “tiqqunists.” Both are terms popularized by anarchists to counteract appelists’ claims that they do not have an ideology or established political network.
Appelists’ dishonesty around this is part of a larger strategy of trying to cease being visible as a distinct group or milieu (which they term “opacity”). They then seek to invisibly coordinate various aspects of everyday life towards a form of communism, with an emphasis on building and controlling infrastructure. This is accompanied by a push to intervene decisively in moments of social conflict such that those situations escalate, struggles gain territory, and people are drawn into their infrastructure. Appelists will typically identify themselves as partisans, autonomists, or communists, if at all, though in North America it is more common for them to also selectively call themselves anarchists.
The most well-known expressions of appelism come from France and are the work of the Invisible Committee, especially The Coming Insurrection (2007) and To Our Friends (2014).
In the United States, the major proponents of appelism are the publisher Ill Will Editions, the Inhabit program, and social media accounts like Vitalist International. In addition to putting forward their American version of appelism, these projects also translate and republish analysis from Lundi Matin, the main appelist platform in France.
From afar, the “party of insurrection”1 can look confusingly like the ideas and activities of many anarchists, because they take certain key concepts from insurrectionary anarchism, such as autonomy and informal organizing. Distinctions typically emerge when we attempt to broach certain principles, or when their perspectives on social position and practices around power and vanguardism become significant in the course of on-the-ground struggles. Appelists cultivate this kind of confusion because being honest about their ideas is not conducive to their strategy, which requires them to change their perspectives and principles depending on who they’re talking to. Clear positions hamper recruitment, as they appeal to fewer people.
Rather than being a similar vision with a different path of struggle, the goals and methods of appelists are actually incompatible with anarchist objectives and undermine non-hierarchical self-organization. Hence this piece, in which we try to identify the methods that damage anti-authoritarian struggle and attempt to encourage a culture of honesty and internal critique that can help us better understand what we are each struggling for, as well as who we choose to struggle alongside and how.

There is no question of speaking or not-speaking: there is only speaking finitely and speaking in-finitely. To speak of not-speaking is to speak. Only in the lacunae do the spirits dwell, and they speak in barbarous tongue. About which we cannot speak, says Wittgenstein, we must pass over in silence. The caesura is not a lack of meaning but an excess of meaning, it flows out and empties.
Pure negation is only consummated in unending, paradoxical affirmation – the endless circumambulation of negative space – a festival of flagellant procession to banish the haunting of the Sign.
Shall the rupture be named? It must and it must not be. Convention holds that the Above is not like the Below, that the Above names and orders the Below. By our secret teachings we know that the Above is the Below, between them there is a radical identity, a non-duality as it were. The name names itself. It is within the name that the name is undone. In the circle-A is the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Infinitesimal and the Infinite, the Moment and the Eternity. This is the reddening by fire.
Similia similibus curantur, says Paracelsus, the like cures like – the hair of the dog cures the bite of the dog. By a great play of symbols, words, names, and lodges, we can efface the idolatry of these and achieve the Great Work. The vulgar eye sees both the name and the unnamed (which is named the “unnamed”) – it sees objects and relations between objects. But embracing mystic ambiguity — the liminal space between these — the vulgar eye sees naught but opaque, esoteric imagery: dancing sylphs.
Names are ritual implements: we falter not in their use, but in their worship. Offerings on the altar should be replaced promptly and often, when flowers wilt and figs rot. Like a raft used to cross a turbulent stream, we leave our names at the shore when we cross over to the other side.
The liar speaks the truth. Hurry to play. Hurry to arm yourself!

They still have overnight security but we didn’t run into them. We know people are afraid. We are afraid too, but we move through fear by taking action. Hearing a machine explode as you walk away is actually really freeing.
The upcoming mass action has set us a deadline. We have from now until November 13 to stop the “movement’s next phase” from being defined by NVDA. We honor our dead by following their struggle through to the end. Start making your way to Atlanta or take action where you are.

It’s important to me that the critiques of named groups reviving in the states context is not limited to questions of anonymity and anti-repression. The “pitfalls of named groups isolating and cutting themselves off through this label” was briefly mentioned, but the container of a named group, however informal/decentralized/a ghostly-aberration, is worth exploring more.
“Projecting out into a named formation is an attempt to cut through and above the many other unknowable, individual, and anonymous actors by virtue of name alone, not by unique action, nor innovative targeting, ideology, the only special thing about these named groups is their self-righteousness. Instead of choosing to act with impact and propaganda of the deed, the charge of a named revolutionary group cuts off and isolates itself as unique under a defined banner and separate from all other acts. Why choose to fall in line with a banner and reproduce yourself as a mirage, a cookie cutter copy of the ghostly aberation of a formation?”
-A Humble Conversation On Why You Shouldn’t Create A Named Guerrilla Cell Formation/Banner/Acronym And Why You Should Resist Being A Part Of One
Named groups have thus far presented themselves as a proposal of a method of struggle towards specific aspects of authority and domination to join in alongside, a container to pour explosive energy into.
For example, the ELF(like the ALF) created a set of guidelines:
Any direct action taken to halt ecological destruction whilst keeping to the following guidelines could, if claimed as such, be considered an ELF action.
To inflict maximum economic damage on those profiting from the destruction and exploitation of the natural environment.
To reveal and educate the public about the atrocities committed against the earth and all species that populate it.
To take all necessary precautions against harming any animal – human and nonhuman.
For the CCF/FAI attacks have largely been limited to struggles against the state, for Jane’s Revenge crisis pregnancy centers, for M5M (inspired by the storming of a police construction and staging outpost for cop city on March 5th) the stated aims are to “seek to disrupt the logistics of those who destroy the earth and dignified life on it” and encourages “a revolutionary guerilla movement”.
These proposals, by nature of being a proposal, encourage sectioning off certain tactics of struggle. The shape and definition of activity influenced by being named and the proposal limits imagination.
Alternatively, struggling while undefinable, nameless, can act as an invitation to struggle itself, in whatever manner anyone desires or is capable of, against authoritarianism and domination itself, for anarchy, to be joined in by comrades with arms, bricks, gasoline, explosives, blockades, street demonstrations, experimentation in reproducibility, experiments of method, targets, and tactics of attack, spreading critiques and disdain of authority and domination, a culture of combative anarchy.
I believe a culture of combative anarchism is necessary if we truly want nothing less than the ruins of this dystopia and a war against the forces of authority.
My critiques are charged with living “history”, the present “state of emergency”, and the rejection of progress.
“History” tells of genocides, of slavery, of the construction of policing, prisons, borders, medicine, industry, technology, climate destruction, white supremacy, domination, authority, governance.
In the present I see it all manifested living due to the “progress”, the dystopia only built upon, refined, never done away with.
The future of green energy, industry, technology, prison society, policing, authoritarianism unknown, all notions of progress can only be a construction upon the existing mountain of garbage piling up.
“The tradition of the oppressed teaches us that the ‘state of emergency’ in which
we live is not the exception but the rule. We must attain to a conception of
history that is in keeping with this insight. Then we shall clearly realize that it is
our task to bring about a real state of emergency, and this will improve our
position in the struggle against Fascism. One reason why Fascism has a chance is
that in the name of progress its opponents treat it as a historical norm.” – Walter Benjamin
The forces of counterinsurgency need the illusion of “peace” and the function of “progress” to continue the placation of neoliberal democratic political victories. The silence is necessary for the smooth functioning neo-liberal permanent end-times of democracy and the uninspiring dread of the constant state of emergency.
“Nothing has corrupted the German working class so much as the notion that it was moving, with the current. It regarded technological developments as the fall of the stream with which it thought it was moving. From there it was but a step to the illusion that the factory work which was supposed to tend toward technological progress
constituted a political achievement.” – Walter Benjamin

In Hilton Head, SC I dumped half a bag of fast drying concrete (“quikrete”) into the toilet of Jeff Ware Insurance, a subsidiary of Nationwide Insurance. I agitated the mixture with the plunger to make sure it all got wet and then I flushed the mixture. It was already starting to back up when I left. if everything goes as hoped, the rest of the concrete will dry in the pipes of the building, causing thousands in damage to the system.
As of February of this year, Nationwide provides coverage for the Atlanta Police Foundation. I took this simple action to encourage them to drop Cop City. I strongly encourage others to copy this action. Other Nationwide subsidiaries near you can be found here: https://agency.nationwide.com/search
A Note on the Upcoming Block Cop City Action:
I am going to be there. Greetings to the wild ones who will also come. I just do not believe the entire weekend will go off without chaos. while I do not intend to go against the intentions of the main event organizers, and I hope the big action goes according to plan, but if the police freak out, I want to be there to see what happens next.

“If you think it’s stupid, if you think it’s liberal, you don’t have to come.”
– A presenter, “Weelaunee Worldwide: Mass Action Speaking Tour”
There is a proposed plan for a single day of nonviolent action on November 13 at the Cop City construction site in so-called Atlanta. We think that this proposal is counter-revolutionary, poorly planned, and unnecessarily dangerous to participants. Also, it’s stupid and liberal.
The following section headings and quotes are all taken from the Block Cop City FAQ (https://blockcopcity.org/faq). If any of our questions below resonate with you, we hope that you make them frequently asked as well.
“This action will employ non-violent tactics not because we accept the state’s false dichotomy of legitimate and illegitimate protest, but rather, because we believe that a commitment to non-violent tactics will best allow us to stick together and overcome the police’s attempt to isolate and divide us.”
This is doublespeak. How exactly do nonviolent tactics overcome the police’s attempts to isolate and divide us, except by accepting and reinforcing their dichotomy between what types of action are legitimate and what are not? By appealing to the type of people who believe in precisely that dichotomy? The pigs murdered Tortuguita. Adopting a strategy of turning the other cheek is a truly shameful response to its death. How can any radical who witnessed the George Floyd insurrection advocate nonviolence with a straight face and still have any self-respect when they look in the mirror?
We understand that this proposal is not ideologically pacifist but “strategically” so. We disagree with this approach. Anarchy is masked, but through the black mask, our true fire shines. We need operational secrecy, anonymity, cunning, and trickery. But we are honest about what we believe in. If we don’t believe in nonviolence, then we don’t advocate it. To do otherwise is to act like a politician.
“Diversity of tactics” is an activist principle, not an anarchist one. Direct action is an anarchist principle, but tactics that are designed to appeal to the media or government are indirect by definition. A foundational principle of anarchy is that the way that we do things is important. As anarchists, we want to promote self-organization that increases conflict with the State and the advocates of reform and recuperation. This can include a myriad of different activities that are technically “not-violent,” but it does not include a deliberate strategy of nonviolence. It does not include petitions or speaking truth to power. It does not include agreements to not critique or denounce reformist and recuperative behavior. Historically, some anarchists have shattered the activist model of a carefully segregated diversity of tactics, as at the 2001 G8 summit in Genoa or the 2008 Republican National Convention in Minneapolis (https://conflictmn.blackblogs.org/wrecking-you-again-for-the-very-first-time/).
We don’t think that this one-day nonviolent action will be effective in stopping Cop City or challenging State repression. But even if it were to be somewhat effective in causing some minor reform or concession, this Pyrrhic victory would inevitably lead to recuperators demanding that this strategy be repeated again and again in every situation, just as Earth First! did after their inexplicable victory at Warner Creek (which they were never able to replicate again). Some strategies are recuperative by nature, no matter who is carrying them out.
“We know that mass civil disobedience is an unquestionable force of the Peoples’ Power, and it is only the power of the people that can #StopCopCity.”
The Power of the Forest has always and unquestionably been in the conflictuality of its defenders. Thus far, the defense of the forest has included both “violent” actions and actions that are “not-violent,” but people carrying out “not-violent” actions (who may or may not be the same ones carrying out violent actions) have not labeled their activity as specifically “nonviolent.” The struggle has grown because people are inspired by its conflictuality. So why make a shift to explicit nonviolence now? The struggle is certainly at a crossroads, but the path being proposed is a disavowal of all that has happened before and a severance of the sinews of our greatest power. The legacy of conflictuality must continue to be centered, honored, and uplifted.
Atlanta council member Dustin Hillis calls the shortage of fire trucks “an emergency.”
Specifically, the chair of the Atlanta City Council’s public safety panel described what has led to so many trucks and ladders being out of service.
“Last week, we averaged fifteen pieces not on the street?” Hillis asked city bureaucrats, who are responsible for keeping the city fleet ready for the roads.
Nate Bailey, the fire union president, told FOX 5 Atlanta mutual aid has been activated over the past few weeks.
“We all support each other, but we shouldn’t have to use mutual aid because we have two or three major fires at the same time,” Bailey said.
There are two primary issues impacting fire readiness.
There are new trucks and ladders coming, but the lead-time from purchase to pick-up is two years.
And Atlanta has a lot of old trucks by mileage.
The city garage is backed on maintenance.

Some quarter sheet flyers for distribution. If you have more cool images make your own! It seems like there are a lot of people who want to help but don’t know what to do. Maybe if they knew about this website they could get some ideas! Maybe if you are too scared to do anything yourself you could distribute these flyers so that someone else will. Some people think a “pivot to NVDA” will bring more people into the movement, but we think there are plenty of people out there who want to strike back at our enemies and just don’t know where to begin. There are too many people who have only ever seen a whitewashed, defanged, media-friendly version of this movement. Down with the disinformation campaign, on with the counter-information campaign! Let’s show our as-yet unknown future comrades they are not alone!

[The following words were written by a comrade and longtime revolutionary prisoner and organizer on the inside of Texas’ prison system, and evolved out of an ongoing correspondence with an anarchist anti-prison organizer on the outside.]
XXXXX,
What’s up bro!? I got your note with the cop city materials, cam str8 to me they’ve not started the digital mail yet. So I really enjoyed the Atlanta Community Press writing [“In Defense of the Chaotic Protester,” by ________]. It begins with a fictional narrative of the actions being joined by older whites who’re relatives of the Forest Protectors. I like that one the most.
I want to salute those who’ve resisted state’s repressive expansion of its militarized monopoly on violence (pseudo-monopoly). As I’ve observed the movement against Cop City from my prison abode I’ve noticed how this movement has raised some questions (as all mass movements tend to do) regarding paths going forward, tactical and strategic.
We’ve watched, and you’ve experienced the class enemies of liberation and autonomy come out and side with the occupation forces, in a United Front of neo-colonial amerikan fascism. At times like this work must be doubled in the realm of education. Particularly educating the people in the realities of class divisions and how they play out in the people’s struggles for liberation. This elucidates why certain sectors are cozied up with the occupation force, while others are on the other side of the line of demarcation, and still others are moderate, or even worse vacillating back and forth.
The only way to move forward is to create a united front, a revolutionary united front, where the basic line of demarcation is the question of militant, sometimes extra-legal acts against the state and its institutions and representatives.
Sabotage actions should be intensified, and ‘militarized.’
Upon soliciting people to join us, there should be no confusion as to our level of commitment or how far we will have to and are willing to go to meet the demands of the liberation movement. Certain heroic deed set the tone, and while they may scare off most, the serious few will be inspired.
Why does it seem that the ‘Left’ is content being the victim, the slaves, the oppressed, of history? I often hear “Say their Names” in terms of the victims of state repression and terrorism. However, the exposure, and saying of those names of who’ve been conscious defenders of the people and their liberation movements is glaringly absent. Teenagers can tell you of victims of police terror but can’t tell you of the Mich X. Johnson’s, the O-Zone Wallaces, the numerous political prisoners of war. Why? It’s because as a mass we don’t do a good enough job maintaining our militancy in spaces that don’t always feel “safe” to be militant or flagrantly revolutionary. Unity will only come once we’ve weeded out those who’re not for what we’re for, and won the loyalty of those passive spectators that the Atlanta Community Press writing spoke about.
See, democracy creates passive spectators, and passive resistors. We’re conditioned to leave every aspect of our lives to ‘experts’ of whatever particular field. Politics being one of the main fields where this applies. Therefore, the quest within the strategic goals of a revolutionary body must be to create NEW PEOPLE, who are in the business of COLLECTIVE MASTERY with the society we tear down and of that which is built in it’s wake.
Anyways, I’m settling in here. I got my property, which was a pleasant surprise and I have a little one on one study group going on with a guy that’s going home in a couple years. Which is rare, usually those types are the worst reactionaries. Im beginning a little agitation work too. See if we can get some sort of traction going on here against the enemy.
We’ll be in touch, tell me what you think about my words here.

Continue reading “Two Reflections from a Comrade in Texas Prisons About the Cop City Struggle”
A recent text, “a humble conversation on why you shouldn’t name your group” has reprised an older conversation among anarchists set off by a “letter to the anarchist galaxy.” Both outline the strategic risks and detriments posed by the decision to claim attacks as named formations. Contributing to this conversation, and in partial response to those demanding reportbacks from the Bash Back! Convergence, it makes sense to take a moment to name one proposal which was *not* put forward last week: the return of Bash Back! as a named organization. A number of pieces in Queer Ultraviolence lay out the limits hit by BB! in that form, and are worth revisiting for those curious. Those limits can only be harder in the current cybernetic-identitarian hell.
500 queer anarchists meeting (again and for the first time) without tragedy and only minor dramas will likely prove to be an historic moment, and one we’ll look back on fondly (after a few bruises and bruised egos heal). The vital things from here will be the relationships formed and nourished by this encounter, not whatever organizational forms we scheme up to vampirize our collective energy. Projects will emerge, initiatives will be taken, monstrous new tendencies will develop. We need all of that. But we don’t necessarily need the name. The baggage keeps us mired in the spectacle of politics.
People can wish Bash Back stayed dead all they want: it’s not going to die so easily. This thing happened before, under this slogan, in the 70s too. People will keep bashing back and will do so under a variety of banners, or none at all. The adherence to a name only limits our imaginations. The recent RICO case against forest defenders demonstrates how dangerous the state considers anarchist methods of organizing, as well as the beautiful idea itself. We stay dangerous by continually experimenting with ways to evade the traps they set for us. We need a smart and ruthless queer militancy, not mere simulacra of that militancy.
Bash Back! clearly showed itself to be a potent call to gather, and will surely continue to, but we strike best masked and silent.
